Movie Review

May 25, 2009 by Zinger

I just finished watching “Taken.”  It was so incredibly awful.

It made me wonder if someone had kidnapped Liam Neeson, got him addicted to drugs, then forced him to make horrible, horrible movies.

Oh geez.

I don’t think I need to add to the cacophony of reaction currently circulating after Palin’s recent interviews by Couric. It’s too easy.

I would just like to say…

…for the record:

If you make more than $250,000 a year, you deserve to pay a higher tax rate. Especially given that only 20% of the household incomes in the USA are above $100,000 a year.

You can afford that. I know you can. And you will still be rich and there will still be poor people polishing your shoes and serving your food and cleaning your house. The least you can do is admit that you are able to be rich because they are poor, and that no one would do those nasty services for you if they weren’t poor, and therefore… you will pay taxes to support a basic standard of living for these people to include healthcare, basic shelter, nutritious food and a good education system to give their children a fighting chance to make it in an unfair world.

Lies

September 13, 2008 by Zinger

I don’t have time to make a lengthy post, but I wanted to take a quick minute to comment on how annoyed and confused I am by John McCain and Sarah Palin’s onslaught of lies regarding Obama.

There is the recent commercial saying that Obama supported “comprehensive sex education” for kindergartners, when in fact, Obama supported a sex education bill that was age appropriate – kindergartners would be learning how to protect themselves from sexual predators. This has already been covered by most media outlets, so I will not waste my time by debunking this further.

I think the “lips on a pig” debate was too stupid to even acknowledge in length here. No self-respecting news agency should have even run the story, because taking too much time to talk about it gives McCain that much media attention.

On both NPR and the PBS news, there was a commentator who tried to imply that Obama had also been “less than honest” by saying that (1) McCain thought that to be rich meant earning 5 million dollars a year, (2) McCain would be willing to stay in Iraq for 100 years, and (3) McCain doesn’t know how to use a computer. I was outraged that this person was again telling even more lies!!! Being the political junkie that I am, I have watched about every interview of the candidates and vice presidential candidates out there, and actually heard McCain say all three of those statements!

While I will give you that there may be some emphasis on these statements for political gain, they were at least based on something McCain actually said. How are these statements not deemed qualitatively different than the blatant lies that McCain is propagating? Additionally, I saw a clip of McCain on the view defending his ads and saying they are “not lies.” Outrageous! I just don’t understand the world sometimes. It’s as if this is simply McCain’s word against Obama’s word, and facts that we should have free access to don’t seem to be entering the picture. If they were, it seems that McCain wouldn’t be appearing in polls with nearly HALF of this nation’s support behind him.
